I’m a disabled full-time student.
Going to a protest is not an option for me.
Not that there are any happening local to me.
I can’t stand for more than 20 minutes without needing to sit down and still walk with a limp since the accident that broke my leg last year - I got hit by a truck while riding my bike.
It’s not the sort of disabled that would get me disability benefits - I’m a writer and I don’t need my leg to do that.
But it does limit how I’m able to engage with the world.
I’m also a hermit. A nun even.
Not your standard sort of nun.
A Queer Heretic Nun.
An Experimental Mystic.
Accidentally discovered how to do that whole Enlightenment thing a few years back and it’s led me to live a life of physical isolation with digital connection.
I went back to college last year to finish my bachelor’s degree, and I’m considering doing at least a Master’s degree and maybe even a PhD in comparative philosophy - we’ve got a lot to learn from other philosophical traditions.
This newsletter is not really about all that, though.
This newsletter is about Simple Acts of Resistance.
The various mainstream social media platforms are shifting their algorithms to favor right-wing and divisive talking points even more than ever before.
Split the left, unite the right sort of stuff. That whole left vs liberal thing is a psyop and a very effective one.
Most of the mainstream media is owned by billionaires who have their own agendas.
So a lot of the ways people are resisting aren’t going to be seen in feeds and on the news.
That stuff is what this newsletter is about.
My class load is fairly laid back - I’ve just got to rack up a diverse bunch of general ed requirements the next couple years to finish up my degree, so I’m having fun with it. Which leaves me a LOT of time to work on other projects.
Like finding and sharing the ways people are resisting, and how we can resist in our own lives and work, even if we’re disabled hermits who can’t run away to distract ICE during a raid.
This is going to be a long four years.
Maybe more if they’re able to hold onto the power in the way they want to.
We need to cultivate hope.
We need to actively seek out the knowledge of what people are doing.
I’ll be gathering and sharing resources. I’m currently working on creating a spreadsheet for vetting news resources. It’s for my own use, but I’ll be making it public for others who want to find reliable sources to keep track of what’s going on in the U.S. and the world.
I’ll be gathering other resources as well. Mutual aid resources, resources for organizing, etc. Book recommendations, movie recommendations, podcast recommendations, and so on.
I’ll also be showing historical and global acts of resistance to tyranny.
The human history of resistance is long.
We’re better at it than we are at just about anything else.
Sock and Awe is the strategy of the Current Regime.
Let’s find ways to dull the impact.
